David Oldbury sadly passed away last October and he will be sorely missed and remembered by his former colleagues and former pupils.
David was Assistant Director of Music, and latterly, Preparatory School Director Of Music. David taught music to Preparatory School at King's and also worked alongside Gavin Williams supporting with O Level, GCSE and A level teaching.
David led the Junior/Preparatory School choir, often giving concerts in neighboring churches and entering the choir in local festivals and competitions. He was the instigator of the hugely successful King's Prom Concerts at the end of each Summer Term.
David Oldbury dedicated nearly 30 years to music at King's. With his passion and infectious enthusiasm, he managed to nurture a real love for music in his pupils.
Beyond the classroom, he contributed hugely to the life of the School, amongst other things he was House Tutor in School House, Head of CCF Navy Section, Commanding Officer of the CCF, involved with rowing and KSR Boat Club. He was the leader of October Half-Term sailing trips on the Norfolk Broads and Berlin, a keen supporter of the Lyke Wake Walk, general studies teacher of etymology, also an exponent of the value of The Times crossword. David was a tremendous lover of words. Ultimately, he was the leader of the Saturday Evening Film Club.
Everyone who knew David would agree that he was a kind, friendly and cultured man. His care and concern for all pupils were apparent.
Rest in peace David, knowing that you are remembered at King's School Rochester.
