The Zetountes Society (from the Greek, meaning “a seeker after knowledge”) meets weekly in order to challenge our academic scholars to think beyond the boundaries of their subjects. This week our Lower Sixth scholars led the discussion on the Japanese crime syndicate, the "Yakuza", "The Chemical, Social and Psychological Impact of Smiling" and "Procrastination".
We were also privileged to have a visit from Dr Tim Hochstrasser, O.R. who gave a compelling talk on "the Changing Significance of Statues in Cultural History".
Currently teaching International History at the LSE, Dr Hochstrasser left King's School in 1980 to read History at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge and, as former member of the Society, he challenged the scholars to remember that "the most important role of education is to teach pupils to distinguish between a good and a bad argument".
